My name is Vlad Matache and I am a fourth year Bachelor student at the Data Science & AI program of Breda University of Applied Sciences.

Through my work on various projects I discovered that I am motivated by finding solutions that combine both AI models and traditional approaches to achieve robust and explainable results.

My interest in programming, creative problem solving and the advances made in the field in recent years made me consider a career in the field of AI. Additionally, BUas’ provides a project based learning environment which continues to prepare me for my future career. Alongside the educational projects I was also given the opportunity to work on extra curricular projects due to my continued efforts and interest in the work.


  • 1st Year Robotics and Mechatronics Bachelor
    • Technical University of Cluj-Napoca 2021 – 2022

I initially chose to follow the Robotics and Mechatronics program due to my interest in robotics, physics and programming however I discovered that the traditional educational environment did not fit my needs. My favorite subjects and the main topics that were taught were Material Science and Dynamics, knowledge that is currently proving very helpful in my current projects.

Work Experience

  • Machine Learning Engineer at Content Intelligence Agency
    • July 2024 – January 2025

Part of the AI Innovation team:

  • Responsible for creating a person tracking algorithm, that can handle changing cameras/different moving shots, for long form content.
  • Worked on speaker recognition/diarisation and translation pipeline.
  • Data Science Intern at Eurofins Materials Science
    • February 2025 – June 2025

Work placement focused on classification and clustering of SEM/EDX analyzed particles:

  • Collaborated closely with material science experts to understand the particularities of SEM/EDX analysis.
  • Built an analysis dashboard to accelerate the manual labelling of particles.
  • Trained a Parametric UMAP model for advanced clustering of particles.
  • Developed a classification model for particles intended for parity with Aztec Analysis Software.
  • Machine Learning Engineer at Content Intelligence Agency
    • September 2025 – January 2026

Returned for a second placement, working across the feature suite:

  • Contributed to multiple models within the production feature suite.
  • Improved and maintained a large-scale database supporting model training and inference.
  • Designed and built a customer-facing SDK to expose internal capabilities to clients.
  • Machine Learning Intern at ThermoFisher Scientific
    • February 2026 – June 2026

Intern at the Life Sciences department, building an on-premise RAG assistant for a TEM application:

  • Designed a RAG chat assistant deployable within a strict hardware envelope: 8GB VRAM, 8GB RAM, and a single CPU core.
  • Developed a modular RAG pipeline evaluated against a synthetically generated dataset, benchmarking both SaaS and open-source components.
  • Focused on open-weight models under 4B parameters to fit the deployment constraints.
